Network and Types of Network

Friends, today I am discussing about the Network and its types.Before starting, I request plese read this blog completely so that you may learnt many more about network .This is the common word which we use in our daily life. we use smartphones and send the message from one place to another  place , if a message is send late then we all say that my network is Slow. So friends what is the network?
if I ask this question to many persons then very few can answer me correctly that what actually a network is!
so friends let's start what is a network?

Basically, In simple words, we can say "MORE than ONE"i.e it is the connection of more than one things which are joined together via any medium is known as a network. It may be either a network of people which are joined together for their needs, or we can say a network of computers those are connected to each other for sharing resources accessibility.

The computers are connected together to form a network by the help of a medium(medium may be wired or wireless). If we talk about wired medium it may be twisted pair cable, coaxial cable or fiber Optic Cables.and in the wireless medium it may be radio waves, Infrared rays and, bluetooth.

Types of network

 Generally, network is of three types :

1. LAN
2. MAN
3. WAN

but other then these,there are some other networks like PAN and HAN.

Personal Area Network (PAN)

It is a small network, its range  is only inside a home or a building. in this network, two or more,telephone, and some other device.
Computer can be connected to each other and are connected to video games
A wireless PAN is a low-powered network carried over a short distance








Home Area Network (HAN)

If some people are uses the same network in a residence then this is called Home area network or (HAN). It includes wired internet connection which are connected to a modem. This modem provide both wired and wireless connection.

These are some of the work which you can do in the Home area network:
1. upload and download photo.
2.  take print from any position in the home.
3, video streaming




Local Area Network

A Local Area network is a  computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory, university campus or office building.
Ethernet and Wi-Fi are the most common technologies in use for local area network. At least two computers are required for building a smallest LAN network. In LAN we can connect 1000 computers to each other.

The Advantage of this network is:

(i)  High speed
(ii) Low cost
(iii) Security
Basically, we can say the PAN and HAN are the examples of LAN(local area network).

Metropolitan Area Network

This is the network which connects a whole City network to each other. This joins all network of the city like school, university, residence, home, government office. This network is greater than the LAN network. Its range is 10KM to 100KM.

so in simple words, we can say to connect LAN to LAN we need MAN network.

Advantage of MAN network

The biggest advantage of MAN network is bandwidth(potential speed) of the connectimg links.this means that resources(such as database and files) shhared on the network can be accessed extremely quickly.

Wide Area Network

This is the biggest network. It is also known as the network of networks. It is the network which covers a whole geographical area.The best example of wide Area Network is the INTERNET.
The company which provides the facility of network with the help of WAN is known as Network Service Provider.

Many technologies are available for wide area network links. Example include circuit-switched telephone lines, radio wave transmission, and optical fiber.

Advantage of Wide Area Network

• WAN covers a larger geographical area. hence business offices situated at longer distances can easily communicate.
• it allows sharing of resources and application software among distributed workstations or users.
• The software files are shared among all the users. hence all will have access to latest files. This avoids the use of previous versions by them.

Drawback of Wide Area Network

• The initial investment is high.
• Difficult to maintain the network.
• Security is a big concern and requires the use of firewall and security software or protocols at multiple points across the entire system. This will reduce the chance of hacking.
